I don’t think I can express to you what Momusu means to me. I haven’t been a fan since the beginning, of course. I don’t live in Japan, can barely speak/understand the language (workin’ on it!) and can only understand idol culture on a surface level. What I can do is come out of my long hiatus, full of writer’s block and lack of motivation, to tell you about what being a fan of Momusu for the last ten years has meant to me.
(Unless otherwise stated, all caps/gifs are from random google-searches/tumblrs – not mine!)

Happy 31st to my lovely, Yoshizawa Hitomi!! My beautiful, bad-ass lovely is married and with child and I am
damn jealous of so curious about her husband! What sort of man could be good enough??
Anyway, it’s also my birthday today. Time to party!

YOSSY!!! My first girl-crush and the best of H!P (no one has surpassed you in my heart, Yossy, no one), HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
(Gifs aren’t mine; found on random tumblr searches)
Yossy and a puppy. What more could one ask for?
Incidentally, I also turn a year older today. >_<
Thrilled as always to have the same birthday as my Yossy…
But let’s not talk about how old I am. Let’s talk about Yossy.
Happy Birthday to Yoshizawa Hitomi, who turns a still gorgeous, still-making-isilie-swoon 29 years old today!
(Thanks to ForeverAiri for the gif!)
MAKE SOME NOISE INTERNET!!!
And…also…Isilie turns…older today.
Happy Birthday to me too!!!
Let’s take a look at an almost exclusively Momusu year, here at Itsumo Genki.
I didn’t post as much as I wanted, that is true, but I did manage to do one post a day for a week (Alo-Hello Week!) as a personal challenge. I decided to try and contribute to Sora to Kujira. This is a commitment for the new year and a new challenge. I’m so nervous and grateful!!
I decided to do Isilie Returns, posts consisting of things that I wanted to talk about but didn’t really have a whole post about which made me more concise and took some of the pressure off.
The happy event of Tanaka Reina (or Winky as she’s known here) FINALLY graduating happened in 2013 to much fanfare and happiness (on my part, anyway). I’d been waiting and waiting for that and let me tell you, the relief when she was no longer in the single and I got to hear Fukuhime and Masaki and FINALLY Sakura…man, so happy. SO happy!
Berryz and C-ute went to Budokan…which I didn’t really investigate, but still, YAY! S/mileage finally made me like a single enough to listen to it more than once. And then there is Juice = Juice.
This might be longer than I thought.

What’s that you said?
There hasn’t been a pic spam here in far too long?
There’s a lot of awesome fodder for captions on the pic boards?
And the blogs?
I also agree with Ishikawa’s unspoken squee at the Yossy smile here.
While listening to Perfume’s Chocolate Disco – here we go!

Well, it looks like it’s my and my Yossy’s birthday again…yeah, I am turning 27, she is now 28.
Let me think about how old we are for a sec…
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!!
I love that I share the same birthday as this gorgeous woman. Since she probably has to work tonight too, I will celebrate our day with some Yossy picture goodness.

And so we come to our final day in the lovely Alo Hello Week. I thought I’d end off with my favourite of all the alo-hellos (that I’ve seen so far anyway): Morning Musume’s Alo Hello 2. If I could, I would just set up this whole dvd for you to watch, because it’s that good. At first it’s the usual pool party, water-slide nonsense fun (and there are so many moments from there you need to see), but then the second day turns into a cross Hawaii adventure.
As you well know, Yoshizawa Hitomi is my favourite Musume and Niigaki Risa became very dear to me – so when they were paired up for this dvd, I had no choice but to love it and cap the hell out of it.
Their mission is just to get back to ‘base’ before the other teams do. On the way, there are landmarks they need to visit and they need to buy the obligatory souvenirs. Each team is driven to an undisclosed location and given an envelope with clues,
shoddy-looking maps and other info they might need. Fujimoto Miki acts as the ‘base’ and stays in communication with everybody so they don’t get too lost.
The staff isn’t allowed to help them here. They have to rely on each other and their
terrible English skills to get them home. They have a camera, $150 and a time limit.

Happy 27th Birthday Ms Yoshizawa Hitomi!
And Happy 26th to me!
We hope you have an awesome day (full of Yossy-style pwn).
This year is just…I can’t even get my head around it and it’s already pretty much over. I feel like I blinked one day in January and then the year was just done.
Need I even list all the insanity of this year? If you’re an H!P fan, odds are you already know. If you aren’t, then you’ll at least have heard of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan in March and how continuously devastating it is to those still living it. It is hardly over, even if the news has moved on. Reading translated tweets from Japan, reading as much as could online and just seeing the photos in newspapers everywhere is something I will never forget. I suppose it’s trite – I don’t live there, I have no family there – but the feelings I had during that month…not something I will forget. Something that changed a lot of things for me.
Just to digress for a moment, I was very touched when the online fan communities rallied this year and donated money, time, effort, and headaches into fundraising campaigns. You can look at it however you want (I’m sure there are more than enough people out there who think donating money is/was a bad/ignorant/naive idea because blahblahblah, but hush for a bit, ok?), but I thought it was awesome. I love that our self-indulgence could help, even a little bit. Love of idols tends to lead to a love of Japan, the desire to learn the language and a love of the culture outside of anime or Johnnies or whatever it might be. At least it has in my limited experience. That is the best part about this sort of fandom. I was very, very touched.
Ok~! Onward, one more time in 2011!
