I am shocked.
Mostly, I’m just shocked.
I had no idea. NONE. Like everyone else (at least everyone I’ve read), I assumed that Iikubo or maybe Fuku-hime would be next in line to graduate. See, we were all thinking about ages, huh? We didn’t think about one of the girls actually wanting to leave, because she honestly loves acting more than idol-ing.
It happens, people. Even to those who pwn our idol socks right off.
I was all ready to start posting about Kudo’s graduation, but then the bizarre revival of the shuffles happened and now I don’t even know where to start…So I split things up and I’ll just focus on one at a time.
Let’s pretend for a moment BOSS graduating is still all there is to it…
And while I’m at it, sneak in a small pv review.

We’re back everybody (and once again, I’m absurdly behind in my reviews)! After a brief and glorious respite from the heavy formation choreography and the blatant pushing of an Ace member – it’s all made a comeback in Brand New Morning, Momusu’s declaration of war on 2017.
Ok, well it’s actually not a war declaration. It’s an uplifting song about moving forward in confusing times and using all your power for good and so forth; it’s the usual morning fare with perhaps a whiff of politics (although to say this song is about Trump seems stupid to me). But this is a BRAND NEW morning (get it?) and we have two fabulous new members to shake things up.

I can’t wait to see this event!!
Hope all your dreams come true!
Like being the
Prince Princess Ikemen of Christmas.
With a trophy.
And resentful onlookers.
Well…maybe not that last one…cute as it is.
Cheers everybody! Have a safe and happy Christmas!
Here they are! The new members of Morning Musume: on the right we have Kaga Kaede and on the left we have Yokoyama Reina.
Yes. There is now ANOTHER Reina. Will she become Winky-squirrel, or will she rise above the previous one and NOT annoy the living hell out of me? Time will tell.
Kaede immediately appealed to me because I am a sucker for boyish idols (or boyish-looking anyway). She also happens to be cute-as-a-button.
Both of these girls were in (what will for me always be called) H!P Eggs. Kaga has been there four years (!), while our new Reina has only been around for two months.
That is one awkward senpai-kouhai situation, isn’t it? I mean they are the same gen now, but Kaede is still technically a senpai in the company. Then there’s the fact that Reina got in after two months while Kaede has been working hard for FOUR YEARS…
Oooh, this is going to be awesome.

I want you to know I really tried.
I started capping for this pretty early, when the first pv hit. Then came The Vision and then FINALLY our Zukki center (sorta). As always, time got away from me and I wasn’t able to even gather my thoughts before the three pvs were out and the single had already been released. And then time zoomed along even faster and now Zukki has already graduated.
*sigh* I’m so old now.
I think this is a particularly interesting triple-a, because unlike the last three times, it feels like the three singles come from three different times in Momusu history. Allow me to explain…

[POST DATE: So here is another one that I wrote way back in 2014…and never finished. I can’t remember where I was going with it, but since it’s long enough that deleting it would be a waste, I’m going to give you what I had already. Then, just like the previous ‘Lost Post’ we’ll wrap up with a pic spam. I apologize that this is now a year or so late.]
Momusu is back in commercials, ladies and gents. And the result is catchy, catchy stuff. I don’t actually mind the fact that this song was written so that they could sell cell phones (or cell phone plans…whatever). In fact, I’d actually love a compilation of all their commercial jingles. There was this song they did for an iced tea commercial back in 2001 that I really loved…
I’m getting off-topic. Since that sort of compilation is impossible, I can at least be content with this catchy piece of work. The single, along with the other A-side (that’s a different post) has already achieved another number one for our girls AND a new record for the group: 5 consecutive number ones on Oricon weekly single ranking. That has never happened in the history of the group before. First week sales?

[JAN 29, 2016: So here we are in 2016 and I never finished this post. I capped the hell out of this pv and I had basically the entire entry done, but I just never got around to finishing. It would be a waste to scrap it, so I decided to finish it now. I started it before Tsunku’s revelation about his vocal chords and before we knew he’d stopped producing, so bear that in mind while reading. I apologize for being so late.]
This is the last of our triple-a side pvs. This is also the only song that wasn’t penned by Tsunku. It’s becoming a thing for each group to have three singles in one and while it’s unusual for anyone else to write for Momusu, it seems like something we can expect now.
This would be the song that doesn’t sound precisely like a Momusu song. Maybe that’s why it isn’t really my favourite of the three.

This, ladies and gents, was the pv I was waiting for because the preview and the teaser pv in Hello!Station were tantalizing.
And I’m not just talking about all that tummeh.
I. LOVE. This. Song.

Don’t hide your faces Momusu. We know you’ve taken a risk again.
And we LOVED it!
At least people are probably saying it’s a risk…
We have the beginning of another triple-a side with three stunning pvs, but I saw this one first and in the traditional Isilie way, I capped it the way I capped One.Two.Three way back when the ‘colourful’ era began. For the sake of honesty, my favourite of the three songs is Sukatto my Heart, but this one, for obvious reasons, is the first of the posts.
Let me just echo basically everyone by saying, FINALLY!!!
This, ladies and gents, is what I’m talking about. Forgive me for being so damn late about it.
At the start of the year our new leaders, Fuku-hime and Sub-leader
Derp Iikubo appeared on a Fuji TV program called, ‘Big Chance’. Three directors used the song Wagamama ki no Mama Ai no Joke to create three separate and completely different pvs for an opportunity to direct a pv in the future. It’s a really cool idea, a great (aptly named) chance for the aspiring directors and another way for Momusu to remind people that they’re still making music.
The winner? Shibue Shuuhei, for this. I’d describe it as almost Momoiro Clover Z-level crack-tastic. There’s a sort of frenzied humour to it. There’s still the close-ups and dance-shots you’d expect, but you’re not sure where it’s going until it explodes and that made it a joy to watch.
There is also a refreshing blue version (Sugiyama Hiroki’s), in which everyone looks muted and beautiful in the cloudless sunshine; and there is my favourite, the rain-soaked, sexy, black-and-white awesome of this one (Konno Emi). I think the reason Shibue’s version won is not only because of the creativity involved, but because it wasn’t just relying on the dance or the girls being pretty. It let the girls do something; it allowed an H!P song to have a concept.
Also: Zukki is there. She lives!
That’s one of many reasons I consider this to be the real pv.
