In Which Isilie Reviews 2017~~

I think saying, “What a year!” is quite the understatement. There have been so many changes, it’s hard to know where to start. Even someone like me, who pretty much only follows Morning Musume, couldn’t help but take notice. I don’t think any group, except Tsubaki Factory is exempt from the relentless changes this year. Although they did unexpectedly get good.

Country Girls got split up and placed into other groups; Momoko finally graduated, but then Shige decided to return; Kobushi Factory got chopped from 8 to 5 without ceremony; Kuudo Harukins left us for acting; Some of the Eggs (they will always be Eggs to me) debuted with a fabulous, fabulous song.

There’s probably more, but let’s try and talk about one thing at a time, shall we? This is gonna be LONG.

In Which Isilie Reviews 2016: New Hope

krwbhicI won’t promise you that I’ll post more next year, because I do that almost every year and fail. I will say that my fandom is not over, even if I don’t post much, and if I have something to talk about, I will talk about it. I think the unceremonious (for me) loss of Idolminded put a huge dent in my motivation. Pretty feeble, I know. I didn’t realize how much I relied on it and took it for granted.

For those unaware, Idolminded (originally International Wota) was a site that gathered different articles/posts from the idol blogosphere for people to easily access. Sometimes they’d just describe the articles, but sometimes they’d comment on them, or feature them specifically, especially if multiple authors had weighed in on a certain subject.

I received so much encouragement, in regards to my writing, and so much information, in regards to the fandom. Because of this site, people started to read mine and I’ve always been humbled and grateful for that. In October 2015 they stopped posting. I hello_project-673768haven’t been able to discover why, but I’m guessing it’s just that real life became more important and that is absolutely understandable.

I just want to thank anyone and everyone involved in that site, if they are reading this, for all the confidence you’ve given me over the years and all your hard work. You have no idea how much you’ve helped this community. And I hope we’ll all keep writing and finding each other as long as this fandom continues. m (_ _) m

I really should try out some forums, huh?

Anyway, I didn’t post much this year, of course, but that’s not to say I didn’t notice anything that happened. Like I said, I felt a distinct lack of motivation. I think I’ve stopped thinking of posting as fun and started to feel obligated. I don’t like that. I don’t see why it can’t be both. H!P is still a great love of mine, after all.

Despite what so many say, I don’t think H!P ever really stagnates, it just doesn’t always change as fast as people want, or in the way that people expect. In fact I think sometimes the problem is the opposite: that H!P stays the same for a while and people have no attention span don’t like that.

Before we look forward, let’s look back a bit, shall we?

The Sexy-Cats have Spoken.

So let’s do the last-minute-a-couple-days-till-the-year-ends reviews! This triple-a side is another one of those record-making, number-one-at-least-for-a-day singles. I am not very surprised. Minus Sou ja Nai, which for me is the weakest, it’s an incredibly strong single.

Sexy Cat Story was the first pv to be released and with such a ridiculous name I wasn’t sure what to expect. I mean, I expected kitty-ears of course, but not much else. I was pleasantly surprised. I mean, the pv actually has some direction this time! I’ve been waiting to see that since 2015’s Seishun Kozou ga Naiteiru.

I just thank my lucky stars that Winky isn’t here anymore.

Momusu’s Vision in a Corner of Tokyo…on SATURDAY NIGHT!

tkb6PSEI want you to know I really tried.

I started capping for this pretty early, when the first pv hit. Then came The Vision and then FINALLY our Zukki center (sorta). As always, time got away from me and I wasn’t able to even gather my thoughts before the three pvs were out and the single had already been released. And then time zoomed along even faster and now Zukki has already graduated.

*sigh* I’m so old now.

I think this is a particularly interesting triple-a, because unlike the last three times, it feels like the three singles come from three different times in Momusu history. Allow me to explain…

The Lost Posts: 2015 Like a Waterfowl…yes.

[JAN 29, 2016: So here we are in 2016 and I never finished this post. I capped the hell out of this pv and I had basically the entire entry done, but I just never got around to finishing. It would be a waste to scrap it, so I decided to finish it now. I started it before Tsunku’s revelation about his vocal chords and before we knew he’d stopped producing, so bear that in mind while reading. I apologize for being so late.]

This is the last of our triple-a side pvs. This is also the only song that wasn’t penned by Tsunku. It’s becoming a thing for each group to have three singles in one and while it’s unusual for anyone else to write for Momusu, it seems like something we can expect now.

This would be the song that doesn’t sound precisely like a Momusu song. Maybe that’s why it isn’t really my favourite of the three.

In Which Isilie Reviews 2012 ~~, the world is still around and that means Isilie must write a post to sum up another year of H!P.

I used this picture since I think it kinda sums up how Momusu has been moving. They’re moving forward so rapidly lately, with new members all over the place, new song styles, new colours for certain members and graduations, oh MY, the graduations.

I wanted to do something a little different this year than just simply a bunch of “this is what I liked”s. If you’ve been reading this you probably already know that I’ve not really covered Berryz, C-ute, or anyone else on this blog this year. Working full-time made it much harder to cover things as well as I would have liked. I will give you a short summary of what I loved this year from Momusu and then I thought I’d talk about some things that I never got around to posting about.

Thanks everybody, for stopping by (even if, like about 60% of visitors, you’re just trolling for ‘jailbait’.)! I even had the pleasure and shock of realizing I have adorable people who love this blog and read it regularly. That honestly has made my year. It was so humbling and made me so happy! Thank you!!

Welcome Oda Sakura (and other stuff)!!

I was going to say 11th gen, but since it’s only one person (*grits teeth*) I guess I’ll just go with the name.

Ok…trying to think of something that hasn’t already been said…and can’t, really.

Too fast. Yep. Where was the training camp? Why bother announcing anyone else if the next minute you’ll just announce the winner anyway? It’s like it all happened in secret and now that One.Two.Three’s promotion has bankrupted the company we can distract people with this!

Great voice, although I wish people would take more of a middle ground about it. It’s always either “she’s amazing” or “she’s nothing special”. She’s good for someone who isn’t fully trained and isn’t at the Momusu level yet. Your mileage may vary on what that level IS (lots of articles about how they suck happening at the moment), but I think we can all agree that she’s not as polished as the others (BUT NOT TOO BAD). Kay? She’s a kid. Calm yourself.

Cha cha SING – Mini Review

I have all kinds of real-life things to do at the moment, so I can’t devote the kind of time I want to…and they haven’t released an HD version yet…this feels so cheap, but go here to watch Berryz new pv.

Honestly, you have to watch it. It’s so much fun, it kinda made my day. It’s as much of an ear-worm as NEWS’ new song Chankapana (also one you should watch: Am I plugging a NEWS song in a Berryz review, in an H!P blog? You bet I am! REBELLION ftw!!!).

In my humble not-the-biggest-Berryz-fan opinion, this is the best they’ve been in ages. I love the colour, I love the vocals and I love that it’s the kind of fun, crazy, made-for-concerts song that Berryz is so good at. It is going to be amazing live.

Loooooove it.

One Two Three Robo Musume!

I used to be able to do these pv reviews in a couple of days after the release. Nowadays I am always late with them, this time because I was waiting for an HD release of this pv. Whatever, I’ll write about whatever interests me and Momusu always does. We finally have the entire pv of the fabulous OneTwoThree single.

50th single…it’s crazy to think about eh? FIFTY! It’s a robo-sparkle fest of corset-ed awesome. It’s a far cry from their 40th single, a comparatively subdued, black-and-white, ballet-fest of pouting.

I thought I could use this opportunity also to talk about the new members in more detail.
And give you some delightful caps.
Be warned: this is pretty long.

Why Morning Won

I don’t actually know if Morning Musume’s appearance on Nakai Masahiro’s Black Variety show with “rival group” Fairies was actually meant to be a battle. They do have a small competition, even though the point is supposedly to teach Nakai about women (since everyone confirmed that he’s never aged past 15 despite being 39). If you don’t know who Nakai Masahiro is…well, you must not be a Momusu fan, never mind a fan of SMAP (Utaban is a crucial and awesome part of Momusu history and it is well worth your time to look up their appearances). The teaching-about-the-heart-of-a-woman kinda goes by the wayside fast. You do have a room full of 13-16 year olds all vying for camera time after all. They also invited two senpai, the lovely Nakazawa Yuuko and NANA from MAX to watch over things (and be teased of course).

Now let me make this clear: I’m really enjoying Fairies. The avex idol group has had strong releases, their dancing is awesome and they have a much more polished image when compared to Momusu. Even though it’s always a little irritating to have seven girls and ONE singer, whomever does the main vocals is quite strong. I adored Hero and Sweet Jewel is a delightful little ear-worm. However, it’s impossible for me not to notice that Morning Musume PWNED THEIR POLISHED LITTLE TUSHES!!!

(PS: some of my caps are from a subbed version and I forget who subbed it…but THANK YOU!!!)
